Devon Royalty turned out in their finest racing colours for the annual Glorious Stoke Fleming Races held on Saturday 23rd October.
Members were out in droves, and the enclosure was full to bursting. Race cards were varied and interesting thanks to the following sponsored races:
May the Horse be with You,
The Premier Maiden Stakes,
Tory Trotters,
The Thurlestone Plate,
The Mullion Meet,
Berry Head Steaks, and
Devonshire Plate.
The sun shone and the turf was firm which was luckily as there were a few handicaps on display, although a sufficient number of fillies and geldings managed to prance around selling wine.
However, there were no refusers, and when the excellent food was served, many of the spectators bolted towards the yummy oat-cuisine.
No one was tongue tied, and hoods, earplugs and blinkers were kept to a minimum, so fun could be had by all.
And the prize money raised was a magnificent £1000 thanks to the excellent stewardship of the Totnes’ Constituency Conservative Women’s Organization and their valiant helpers. Another successful event.
